Long Term Care

New published research shows that many people require longer-term care than most treatment programmes currently provide. A safe and supportive living environment is necessary for clients on leaving treatment. Time away from dealers, using friends, and stressful conditions is essential for successful recovery.

Capri is pleased to announce that extended residential care (3-6months) is now available for clients who have completed the initial inpatient treatment programme. Specific terms and conditions will need to be discussed with the treatment team.

A goal for many extended care clients will be to get ready to return to productive work. Many clients will have or be helped to obtain employment. These clients will do morning meditation with the other clients and then go to work for the day. Other clients will be helped in job training or returning to school or university.

An individual Continuing Care Plan will be developed by the clinical team for extended care clients just like primary clients. For many extended care will be just what it is, an continuation of their original treatment plan. They will continue to have access to their primary counsellor as needed or once a week. Clients will attend the Intensive Outpatient meetings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Extended care is a bridge to real life and long term recovery. The longer a person goes from their last use the stronger they get in their recovery. Clients will also be helped in continuing work on their twelve steps. Most will only have finished the first five steps and will continue with step six and the remaining steps. Clients will be required to attend AA or NA meetings and to get a sponsor.

Extended care will be a necessity for some clients. Three to five weeks of primary treatment is just not enough to do the job. In addition, those that have legal issues as a result of their using may be required to have a longer term treatment.

Please contact the treatment team to discuss extended care.
